This year Apple has introduced a cheaper version of iPad 9.7 into the markets, but a recent rumor suggests that in 2018 the Californian company can go even further, marketing an even cheaper model.
Digitimes’ site in Taiwan is not the most reliable source, but it has always been very close to Apple’s production partner chain. The report speaks of a growing desire to enter those markets that are particularly price-sensitive, but also facilitate the distribution of sensitive businesses and users at the $300 threshold.
The cheapest iPad to date
The hypothetical range for the next device is $250-260, but it is not yet clear whether it will be a model next to the current line, or whether it will replace the model launched in March of this year. The report goes on to say that the planned marketing date will fall in the second quarter of 2018 and Compal Electronics will be the main production partner.
For the time being, we will see if a new confirmation of this will emerge in the coming months, as Digitimes is not the most reliable source when it comes to details of Apple products.
